This exhibition (2011/03/28-04/02) by Machida Masayuki (町田昌之) at Ginza Ono Gallery-2 (小野画廊-2) consists of - among others - the pictures you can see on the walls in the background of this photo. (The artist is on the left.)
This exhibition (2011/03/28-04/01) by Tajima 田島木綿 at Gallery Kobo (巷房) and Project Room-306 (銀座奥野ビル306号室プロジェックト) consists of three parts: the main Kobo space (on the third floor), the under-stairs Kobo space in the basement, and Room-306. I saw the third-floor space (see photos below) and the under-stairs space, but unfortunately Room-306 was locked up when I visited on Tuesday (apparently it's scheduled to be open on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday).
The main Kobo space reflects the title "A Waiting Room", apparently capturing the look of an old style waiting room at a train station - particularly the type seen on branch lines, which are still to be found here and there in Japan, with one room for waiting, ringed by benches and open in the center to accommodate a large number of standing people when it's crowded.
An interesting thing about the Kobo space (in what used to be rooms 302 and 303 - now combined into one space), is the floor, which is the original concrete laid down in either 1931 or 1932, which was under wooden flooring until that was torn out (along with the wall) to create the current gallery display space. I don't think I've seen concrete quite like it before. It's like an artwork in its own right - with interesting patterns, impressions where the horizontal wooden supports were laid into it for the original wooden flooring, etc. - and not a crack anywhere - after around 80 years. It seems to be very solid and stable.
This exhibition (2011/03/17-04/03) by Nekoke (猫毛) at Ginza Modern Art (銀座モダンアート) consists of small figures (similar to the ones shown on the promotional card) made from loose hairs taken from the artist's cat brush - that is, hairs that her cat naturally sheds.
This nihonga exhibition (2011/03/24-04/03) by Oshimoto Kazutoshi (押元一敏) at Shibata Etsuko Gallery (柴田悦子画廊) - entitled "Karada" ("Body") consists of female silhouette pictures similar to the one shown in the upper right corner of the promotional card.
This exhibition (2011/03/25-31) by Saito Mikako at Gallery Camellia (ギャラリーカメリア) consists of pictures similar to the one on the promotional card - with the theme being old stories - like "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Sleeping Beauty". The artist told me this is her first exhibition.
This exhibition (2011/03/21-04/02) by Tajima Airi (田島愛及展) at Office Iida 企画 consists of pictures that are - at first glance - abstract, but are (as the artist told me herself) based on real scenes. The picture shown on the promotional card is my favorite of the exhibition.
This exhibition (2011/03/21-26) by Muramatsu Yuki (村松佑樹) at Jungaro (純画廊) consisted of a set of pictures similar to the one depicted on the promotional card. My favorite of the batch was the long city-scape (not exactly a city-scape, but similar) displayed on the back wall of the gallery.
This exhibition (2011/03/17-22) by Iida Shintaro (井田信太郎) at K's Gallery consisted of abstract paintings - one example being the one on the promotional card. My favorite was an ink-based picture with an overall blue tone.
This nihonga exhibition (2011/03/21-26) by Adachi Shizue (足立静枝) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) consisted of (mainly) pictures of northern Italy - with one example below (from the promotional card for the event).
This tempera exhibition (2011/03/03-12) by Toyama Etsuko (遠山悦子展) at Suzuki Atelier (アトリエスズキ) consisted of many very beautiful pictures of sakura trees - such as the one on the promotional card. Apparently all the trees are actual trees the artist encountered in traveling around Japan for a year while working on this collection There was an amazing depth to the pictures - I found myself studying them up close to see if they were actually three-dimensional.
This exhibition (2011/03/07-13) by Kono Satomi (河野里美) at Y's Arts-508 consisted of brightly colored pictures like the one on the promotional card - illuminated from behind. It was quite a striking effect. [2012/03 Exhibition]
This exhibition (2011/03/07-13) by Watanabe Natsuko (渡辺夏子) at Shibata Etsuko Gallery (柴田悦子画廊) consisted of nihonga images similar to (and including) the one on the promotional card.
This exhibition (2011/03/14-19) by Okai Miharuko (岡井美原子展) at Dou Gallery (ドゥ画廊) consisted of both scenic pictures (many of which I liked very much), and more abstract pictures (like the one on the promotional card).
This exhibition (2011/03/07-12) by Tamamura Sachiko (玉村幸子) at Kobo (巷房) consisted of images similar to the one on the promotional card. It was interesting how the artist utilized bits of real plants and wax for the artwork.
This exhibition (2011/03/07-12) by Koyama Akiko (小山暁子) at Ginza Ono Gallery-2 (小野画廊-2) consisted of a collection of small ceramic planters that were interestingly displayed on the walls, with live plants in them.
This exhibition (2011/03/14-19) by Nove Hayato (野辺ハヤト) at Kobo (巷房) consisted of an interesting set of pictures (mostly) painted onto wood and a set of figures (mostly elephants, but with one figure separate from the rest, looking like the figure in the second imagine below - on the promotional postcard [the other two images are from postcards available at the exhibition]). The first picture below was my personal favorite.
The group exhibition (2011/03/03-08) entitled Zoo Group Exhibition (Zoo展) at 銀座西欧ギャラリー consisted of a wide range of art by university students - tied together with a theme of animal footprints walking all over the walls and ceiling - and over the promotional card! The various footprints made for a surprisingly pleasant and fun effect.
This exhibition (2011/03/03-09) by Sakurai Sayuri (桜井沙由理) at Ginza Modern Art (銀座モダンアート) consisted of some very detailed and interesting cut-paper art. The example on the promotional card was not my favorite, but still you can sense how detailed the pictures were from it.
This exhibition (2011/03/06-12) by Prokopenko Elena (プロコペンコ・エレナ) at Gallery Platform Studio (ギャラリープラットフォームスタジオ) included a wide range of picture types and sizes - including the triangular picture shown on the promotional card and round pictures. As always, I think that sophistic wordy explanations of pictures are a poor substitute for seeing the art yourself, so I'll just say that I liked this exhibit a lot and thought many of the pictures were very nice.
This exhibition (2011/03/10-18) by 佐伯和子 (who had an exhibit last year - at which time I also forgot to check on the pronunciation of her name!) at Gallery-403 (ギャラリー403) consisted of a variety of drawings (apparently made using chopsticks instead of a brush) - one example shown below (from the promotional card), on a variety of different types of paper (or different color paper at least, I didn't ask about the specific type of paper).
This exhibition (2011/03/04-06) by Kogei High School (東京都立工芸等校学校) at Tokyo Geijutsu Gekijo (東京芸術劇場) consisted of a large range of artfully constructed things, as you can see in a walk-through video I took.
This exhibition (2011/03/14-19) by Hasegawa Akiko (長谷川晶子) at Kobo (巷房) consisted of a striking set of pictures. (I also liked this artist's 2010 Exhibition.) In the aftermath of the March 11th earthquake, there were few people making the rounds of the galleries, but for those who braved radiation fears, this was a nice exhibition to see.
This exhibition (2011/02/28-03/12) by Okamoto Haku (岡本博) at Gallery Gen (ギャラリー現) consisted of computer art similar to the image below (taken from a brochure of the artist's work handed out at the exhibition). I was told by a gallery spokesperson that it's not based on photography, but is purely digital art created from zero with a computer.
This exhibition (2011/02/28-03/05) by Suzuki Kiyokazu (鈴木清和個展) at Gallery Musashi Ginza (銀座ギャラリームサシ) consisted of oil paintings of scenes in Japan and overseas. I personally liked the following two paintings best (which the artist gave me permission to photograph for this blog).
This exhibition (2011/02/28-03/05) by Kanamori Akinori (金森昭憲) at Kobo (巷房) consisted of several components - I liked the bold colors displayed on the picture used on the promotional card, and also rather liked the blocks of clear resin with keys and whatnot within.
This exhibition (2011/02/28-03-05) by Ishiyama Kimiko (石山貴美子展) at Kobo (巷房) consisted of a collection of photos mostly taken in France - one example shown on the promotional card.
This group exhibition (2011/03/07-19) entitled "Room-306, March 2011 Exhibition" at Ginza Okuno Building, Room-306 (銀座奥野ビル306号室2011年3月展示会) basically consists of two parts, with composite photos by Lyle (宏) Saxon and architectural themed items by Ohtani Noriyuki (大谷宗之), Kudo Kenji (工藤賢二), and Kobayashi Hidekazu (小林秀和).
The above montage consists of my photos of the Okuno Building (with a couple of pictures from the surrounding area - Ginza, Yurakucho, etc. included). The promotional postcard is below (drawing by Ohtani Noriyuki).
