Negishi Tatsue (根岸達江) Exhibition at Nabis Gallery (なびす画廊) 2011/11

This nihonga exhibition (2011/11/14-19) by Negishi Tatsue (根岸達江) at Nabis Gallery (なびす画廊) consisted of paintings similar to the one featured on the promotional card.  Many of them evoked thoughts of mountain peaks and/or stormy oceans, but in asking the artist about it, she indicated that she had no particular actual object in mind when creating the images.  (Come to think of it - this artist had an exhibition last year at which I asked her the same question - no wonder she gave me an "again?" smile while explaining!)  この展示会は、DM絵葉書のような絵でした。 見てみると、山や激しい海を想像しましたが、画家に聞いてみると、特別な物を想像せずに書いたらしい。 (考えて見ると、この画家の去年の展示会に同じい台詞があって...)

Kamiwakida Naoko (上脇田直子) Exhibition at Gallery b.Tokyo (ギャラリービートウキョウ) 2011/11

This exhibition (2011/11/14-19) by Kamiwakida Naoko (上脇田直子) at Gallery b.Tokyo (ギャラリービートウキョウ) consisted of a set of very interesting paintings painted with various materials (tempera, nihonga, etc.) and conveying complicated feelings amazingly well.  The picture (below) that was featured on the promotional card I immediately recognized as a crowded train platform in both details and feeling.  I guessed Shinjuku and the artist said that was indeed the station she had in mind when painting it.  Each picture conveyed an interesting set of feelings.

Nakamachi Masao (中町正男展) Exhibition at Gallery Tomo (ぎゃらりぃ朋) 2011/11

This exhibition (2011/11/19-26) by Nakamachi Masao (中町正男展) at Gallery Tomo (ぎゃらりぃ朋) consisted of hybrid pictures similar to the one featured on the promotional card, with old style pictures in the background combined with a nearly photographic detail picture of a modern woman in the foreground.  The combination of old-style stylized background pictures and modern woman foregrounds produces a three-dimensional effect.  この展示会は、DM絵葉書のようなハイブリッド絵でした。 昔絵スタイルのバックグラウンドとその前にモダーンな女性がいる - 立体的な感じでした。

服部朋子 Washi-Picture Exhibition (和紙顔彩) 2011/11

This washi-picture exhibition (和紙顔彩) by 服部朋子 (I forgot to check the pronunciation of the artist's name) consisted of pictures made with different colors of washi paper.  From a distance they look like standard pictures, but having a close look, you discover the colors are of the paper itself and not paint laid onto paper.  この和紙絵展示会は、DM絵葉書のような和紙顔彩でした。 結構面白かったです。

Narumi Mineko (鳴海美年子) Exhibition at Nabis Gallery (なびす画廊) 2011/11

This exhibition/installation (2011/11/21-26) by Narumi Mineko (鳴海美年子) at Nabis Gallery (なびす画廊) was inspired by the artist's visit to a wooded island in southern Japan, and there really was a feeling of wandering through a forest as I walked around the room looking at the many surfaces of the artwork.  The pictures were made with a combination of coloring and burning.  [Exhibition Video]  この展示会/インストレーションは、以下の写真のような空間でした。 画家が、島の森の影響で作ったらしい。 確かにその感じでした. [動画]

Itabashi Jyunji (板橋順二) Exhibition at Gallery-403 (ギャラリー403) 2011/10

This exhibition (2011/10/24-29) by Itabashi Jyunji (板橋順二) at Gallery-403 (ギャラリー403) consisted of oil pictures that the artist told me were created with a paint knife only - with no use of brushes.  The paint was rather thick on the canvas, creating a 3-D effect that made some flower pictures look amazingly real.  この油絵展示会は、DM絵葉書のような絵でした。 画家が、筆を使えず作ったらしい。 多くの絵が凄く奥深い感じでした。

This exhibition (2011/10/31-11/05) by Matsuzawa Masa (松沢まさ) at Gallery La Mer (ギャラリー La Mer) consisted of a wide variety of images of very different styles, with a similar cheerful feeling to them.  There were also some line images created by laying down colors first, followed by black, and then drawn by scratching through the black.  It was a fun exhibition.  この展示会は、色々ないい明るい雰囲気とスタイルの絵でした。 楽しい展示会でした。
