I'm trying something a bit different this time - introducing several art exhibitions via video clips:

An interesting exhibition/installation consisting of stone artwork and the shadows the pieces cast (from a single spotlight placed on the floor near the door).  This exhibition was in all three of Gallery Kobo's exhibition rooms, but I only the saw the two in the basement (which is what this video shows).

This installation had an interesting element - the artist used an old out-of-ink pen to write invisible things onto the white strips of paper.  After she explained that, I contemplated what I would do if I were writing something that no one would ever read, and I said something to the effect of (I remember the concept of what I said very well, but not the exact wording), "If I did that, I would write the kind of things that I'd like to say to people, but cannot for whatever reason (desire for world peace, etc.).  What did you write?", and she confirmed that she had indeed written the type of things that feel good to write, but not to have someone read!

"Kiki - Live in Hamamatsucho - 2012"

On December 6th, 2012, I was on my way to Hamamatsucho Station when I heard a beautiful voice on the December wind... which turned out to be the group Kiki, who were performing outdoors, near the station.

I listened to both of their performances (each consisting of several songs) that evening and found them to be a nice, tight band, with a singer who has a beautiful voice.  The band's website is:

Majima Hidenori (間島秀徳) Exhibition at Steps Gallery - (2012/11)

This exhibition (2012/10) by Majima Hidenori (間島秀徳) at Steps Gallery consisted of the very large painting shown in this photo.  As I contemplated the picture, I commented to the gallery owner that I had at first thought it was an abstract image, but the more I looked at it, the more it looked like the ocean...  He said it was indeed the ocean, but as seen from underwater.  With that realization and contemplating the painting anew, there was a terror/fear in the image with echoes of March 11th, 2011....

Tonuma Makiko (戸沼牧子) Exhibition at K's Gallery - (2012/10)

This exhibition (2012/10/22-27) by Tonuma Makiko (戸沼牧子) at K's Gallery consisted of pictures making inspired use of colors.  The colors were quite nice, and while the picture featured on the promotional card gives you some idea, keep in mind that printing can't quite reproduce really subtle colors, and - indeed - the original (naturally) looked better with really beautiful color.

Inagaki Hiroko (稲垣弘子) Exhibition at Gallery-403 (ギャラリー403) - (2012/09)

This exhibition (2012/09/09-15) by Inagaki Hiroko (稲垣弘子) at Gallery-403 (ギャラリー403) consisted of multiple-layer pictures incorporating a transparent layer in front, with background colors that move relative to front-drawn elements as you walk by the pictures.  Not just a three-dimensional effect, but actually three-dimensional.  [2012/03 Exhibition]

Isono Michiko (磯野迪子) Exhibition at Lixil Gallery - (2012/09)

This installation (2012/09/03-27) by Isono Michiko (磯野迪子) at Lixil Gallery consisted of views of large apartment buildings.  Looking at the projected views on the walls of the gallery, I contemplated the fascination of looking at large concrete buildings full of residences.  It's kind of like looking at a living library shelf, with recorded worlds residing inside books on the one hand, and living worlds residing within each of the many apartments in each building on the other.  このインストレーションは、DM絵葉書のような写真でした。 まず、動画と思いましたが、良く見ると、写真から写真へのトランジションの感じでした。 東京のアパートやマンションは、面白い; 外から見ると、色々な世界がある見たいな感じ？

Hamada Maki (浜田麻希) Exhibition at Gallery-58 - (2012/08)

This exhibition (2012/08/27-09/01) by Hamada Maki (浜田麻希) at Gallery-58 consisted of pictures in the style of the one featured on the promotional card.  An interesting feature of these pictures were the physical items attached to the surface of the painting.  この展示会は、DM絵葉書のような絵でした。 絵の上に、物が付いているのは、面白かったです。

Yamamoto Mika (山本三花展) Exhibition at Steps Gallery - (2012/08)

Harai Kenji (原井憲二展) Exhibition at Gallery Kobo (巷房) - (2012/09)

This exhibition (2012/09/03-08) by Harai Kenji (原井憲二) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) needed to be seen from a certain distance.  I initially walked into the room and looked very closely at the paper in frames... "Hmm... paper with holes of various sizes creating shading..." and then later, from the other side of the room saw that it was one large photograph, with basically halftone-printing style dots (holes in this case) of varying sizes making up a picture - as you can see from the promotional card.

原井憲二展 / 巷房

この展示会は、まず抽象的な紙と思って、それから作品を離れて見ると「あっ！ 写真だ！」見えて来た。 黒い所は、穴でした！

Inaba Hirono (稲葉寛乃) インストレーション at Gallery-58 - (2012/08)

This installation by Inaba Hirono (稲葉寛乃) at Gallery-58 consisted of three-dimensional objects within a sea of thin strings suspended from the ceiling (made by strategically coloring parts of the strings hanging down.  このインストレーションは、以下の写真のような感じ - 紐の中に物があって....
