Azumi Sayuri (安住小百合) Exhibit at Shibata Etsuko Art Gallery - (2010/06)

This nihonga exhibition (2010/06/24-30) by Azumi Sayuri (安住小百合) at Shibata Etsuko Art Gallery I quite enjoyed seeing.  The pictures of the type shown on the promotional postcard were of a style similar to what is seen in famous temples in Japan, and there were regular-content pictures as well, including a couple of small landscape pictures that were very nice.  [2011 Exhibition]
安住小百合 / Shibata Etsuko Art Gallery
One of the small landscape pictures - showing a winter (or autumn maybe) twilight scene of trees and a sliver of a moon - was my favorite image at the exhibition.  It captured the feeling of a twilight sky seen through bare trees so well, I kept coming back to it and contemplating past evenings of my life - when I contemplated such scenes and fell into deep thought....

This exhibit (2010/06/24-07/03) by Kanai Chie (金井千絵-水彩画展) at Gallery-403 (ギャラリー403) is a nice collection of transparent watercolor paintings, similar to the one on the promotional postcard.  It runs through this Saturday, so if you're in Ginza, check it out.  [2011 Exhibition]  [2012 Exhibition]

This exhibit (2010/06/21-26) by Uchibori Go (内堀豪展) at Gallery Kobo-2 (巷房-2) consisted of objects like those shown in the promotional postcard.  Being used to seeing things hanging on the wall, it was interesting to see fully three-dimensional objects sitting on a table.

Kirimura Akane (桐村茜展) Exhibition at K's Gallery

This exhibit (2010/06/24-29) by Kirimura Akane (桐村茜展) at K's Gallery consisted of both two and three-dimensional art.  There was a good variety to peruse and many were quite interesting.  The promotional postcard shows an example of one of the three-dimensional items.

Tokyo Art Club - July 3rd & 4th, 2010

I picked up this card advertising something by Tokyo Art Club to be held on July 3rd and 4th, 2010.  I'm not sure what it is or how interesting it might be, but since I liked the card, I thought I'd put it in here (in case someone is interested).

Group Exhibit at Gallery Uesuto (ギャラリーうえすと)

This group exhibit (2010/06/22-26) at Gallery Uesuto (ギャラリーうえすと) consisted of hand-made items from natural materials, including handbags and whatnot, as well as purely decorative items.  The group has been holding an annual exhibit for several years now.  (Click on the card for an enlarged view to see the artists' names.)

This gallery is quite near to Yurakucho Station, but there aren't other galleries right next to it.  Clusters of galleries bring in more foot traffic, since people head for clusters more than individual places.

Esashi Tomoko (エサシトモコ) Exhibit at Office Iida (オフィスイイダ)

This exhibit (2010/06/21-07/03) by Esashi Tomoko (エサシトモコ) at Office Iida (オフィスイイダ) consists of ceramic cats in various guises.  The interesting thing is that people can order one by sending in photos of their cat, with a description of the cat's personality, and the artist will make a custom cat modeled on the photos and description.

As is usually the case at Jungaro (純画廊), this group exhibit (2010/06/21-07/03) - promotional postcard picture by Mizuguchi Kayoko (水口かよ子) - features settled pictures that are relaxing to look at.

Sano Koutaro (左野広太郎) Exhibit at Gallery Kobo (巷房)

This exhibit (2010/06/21-26) by Sano Koutaro (左野広太郎) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) consisted of ceramic pieces that had engineered cracks in them.  My personal favorite was a set of them encased behind a clear sheet in a frame.  As three-dimensional objects, the promotional postcard doesn't do them justice.

This group exhibit at Gallery Musashi (ギャラリームサシ) was divided into two shows - from 2010/06/14-20 and 21-27.  There was an interesting mix of pictures - some of which I liked a lot, some less so.

This exhibit (2010/06/12-19) by Ito Marie (伊東真梨恵) at Gallery Platform Studio (ギャラリープラットフォームスタジオ) was basically as shown in this photo.  I would have used a promotional postcard, but was told they were all gone by the first day of the exhibit.  (Having my own exhibit at the time on the third floor, I actually went up to this gallery on the 5th floor on opening day, but it was packed, so I didn't attempt to actually enter the room until the next day.)

Iwasaki Natsuko (岩崎夏子) Exhibit at Art Gallery Ishi (アートギャラリー石)

This nihonga exhibit (2010/06/14-19) by Iwasaki Natsuko (岩崎夏子) at Art Gallery Ishi (アートギャラリー石) presented some really impressive paintings.  Since this exhibit took place at the same time as my own exhibit in the same building (the Okuno Building), I dropped by room 206 (from room 306) a few times to admire the great paintings and also to introduce them to some friends who liked them the best of all the exhibits they saw when they visited.  Very nice!
岩崎夏子個展 / アートギャラリー石
This was my favorite painting - largely thanks to the color, which was mysterious and beautiful.  It didn't photograph very well, but this shows some of the picture's allure.  You definitely need to see the original to fully appreciate this one though.

Takashita Seiko (高下せい子展) Exhibit at Ks Gallery - (2010/06)

This exhibit (2010/06/17-22) by Takashita Seiko (高下せい子展) was held at K's Gallery.  I wasn't able to visit this one, but all of the exhibits I've seen at K's Gallery so far have been worthwhile, so I'm assuming this one was as well.

This exhibit (2010/06/14-19) by Takahashi Yumi (高橋ユミ展) at the 1st floor Ginza Ono Gallery-2 (小野画廊2) consisted of some interesting photo-based images.  The example on the promotional postcard is fairly clearly photo-based, but some other pictures displayed at this exhibit looked almost as though they were purely paintings.  The effect was quite interesting.

For this exhibit (2010/06/14-19) by Endo Kazunari (遠藤一成展) at Gallery Kobo (巷房), all three of Gallery Kobo's display spaces were utilized.  The imagine on the promotional card is a close-up from the third floor space.  Personally, I liked a cluster of smaller images in Kobo-2 in the basement.

This exhibition (2010/06/07-12) by Azegami Atsuko (畔上温子) at Art Gallery Ishi (アートギャラリー石) consisted of some large and very nice nihonga pictures - one example shown on the promotional postcard (see below).  I tend towards liking blue-themed pictures, but I was quite taken by the overall combination of colors and detail in this artist's work.  Impressive.

Hara Daisuke (原大介展) Exhibition at K's Gallery

At this exhibit (2010/06/10-15) by Hara Daisuke (原大介展) at K's Gallery, were some very interesting three-dimensional paintings.  (One I initially thought was ceramic, until the artist explained otherwise.)

Tokyo 1990 (20年前の東京) Video Exhibition by Lyle (宏) Saxon

This video exhibit/installation by Lyle (宏) Saxon is entitled "Tokyo 2010 (20年前の東京)", and it runs from June 9th, 2010 through to June 19th.  The material includes many scenes of a Tokyo already vanished in the relentless flow of history - such as views inside the old Marunouchi Building, views of an empty-lot Shiodome, the fountain in Shinbashi's SL-Plaza, etc.  For those with the time to watch the entire video, it runs for an hour, but if you only have time for ten minutes, or five, or three, that's fine too!

This exhibit (2010/05/24-29) by Morohashi Yuki (諸橋勇樹) at Art Gallery Ishi (アートギャラリー石) consisted of interesting images similar to the one on the promotional postcard.

Asking the artist about how they were made, he said (basically) that first a layer of charcoal was laid down and then parts were drawn on with pencil (which simultaneously scrapped off the charcoal in that spot).

[Note: Regarding the artist's name - I *think* it's pronounced "Morohashi Yuki", but I forgot to confirm that.  In any case, his name is written: 諸橋勇樹
