Muraki Chisato (村木千里) Exhibition at Gallery Musashi Ginza (銀座ギャラリームサシ) - (2010/10)

This exhibition (2010/10/25-30) by Muraki Chisato (村木千里) at Gallery Musashi Ginza (銀座ギャラリームサシ) included many very nice pictures based around charcoal prints.  The example of the sakura tree here was quite interesting.  The paper utilized is a one-off hand-made sheet of washi (Japanese paper) with an interesting texture and some holes.  This picture is best viewed from at least a few feet away - at which point the holes become flower petals drifting down....

The young girl above was someone the artist met in... in... I think she said Nepal.

Hirano Takako (平野貴子) Exhibition at Gallery Kobo (巷房) - (2010/10)

This exhibition (2010/10/25-30) by Hirano Takako (平野貴子) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) consisted of an interesting set of color prints made from engraved plates.  When I met the artist, I asked her how many plates were necessary for the final prints, and she said just one.  She went on to explain that the all the colors were applied to the single engraved plate for each picture (see second photo below).

This exhibition (2010/10/25-30) by Shigaki Masahiro (志垣昌宏) at Gallery Uesuto (ギャラリーうえすと) consisted of a collection of watercolor pictures of Paris that the painter mostly painted at each location.  The promotional card shows the style.

Tatebe Miki (建部弥希) Exhibition at K's Gallery - (2010/10)

This exhibition (2010/10/28-11-02) by Tatebe Miki (建部弥希) at K's Gallery consisted of many elements - my favorite being a three-dimension piece making use of interesting reflections.  (Actually, I went by on Wednesday and was only able to see part of the exhibition as it was being set up - if I can drop by again before it's over, I may update this post.)

Kikuchi Nuiko (菊池絵子) Exhibition at Office Iida (オフィスイイダ) - (2010/10)

This exhibition (2010/10/25-11-06) by Kikuchi Nuiko (菊池絵子) at Office Iida (オフィスイイダ) consisted of pictures in both oil and pencil.  One of the simple designs is shown on the promotional card, which mimics the standard format of post office postcards in Japan.  There was another picture that was interesting to ponder - the more so after the artist explained the concept and thinking behind its creation.  This is the great part about talking to artists directly - as opposed to someone else interpreting their work - they *know* what they were thinking while making their own creation, which others can only guess.

塩田澄子 Exhibition at Gallery Seikodo (ギャラリーセイコウドウ)

This exhibition (2010/10/25-30) by 塩田澄子 (I forgot to verify correct pronunciation of the kanji with the artist) at Gallery Seikodo (ギャラリーセイコウドウ) consisted of many oil paintings which were painted with a thinner amount of paint than is typically the case with oil.  The artist said her paintings are often confused with other processes (which I can easily imagine - I also thought they were painted with something other than oil paints).

This exhibition (2010/10/18-24) by Tamura Kimi (田村公) at Gallery Musashi Ginza (銀座ギャラリームサシ) consisted of several large, colorful oil paintings.  The physical arrangement was interesting as well - with one placed in a corner creating a couple of 45-degree angles instead of one 90-degree one.

Nakagawa Luna (中川るな) Exhibition at Gallery Kobo (巷房)

This exhibition (2010/10/18-23) by Nakagawa Luna (中川るな) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) consists of small books (with pictures and text by the artist) placed around the under-stairs room and with three low chairs to sit on and contemplate the books from.  It's hard to explain why exactly, but it was a lot of fun!  The fun was tied in with the size of the room I think - the feeling being something like kids in a clubhouse?

Usually I only post things from exhibits that I've already seen, but I'm making an exception in this case, as this is a new gallery and it seems like a good idea to put this in early.  This exhibit (2010/11/03-07) by Onodera Kaori (小野寺かおり) at Salon de La (サロンドゥラー) on the 6th floor of the Ginza Okuno Building, is to be of old handkerchiefs.

This exhibition (2010/10/15-23) by Yamada Rie (山田りえ) at Shibata Etsuko Gallery (柴田悦子画廊) consists of many very nice large pictures - one of which the promotional card doesn't even come close to doing justice to!  Imagine the dull gold-brown on the card as glittering gold, and the colors of the plant 20x more vibrant, and you might begin to get an idea.  If you're in Ginza during this exhibition, do yourself a favor and go have a look.  The pictures are very nice, but don't reproduce well, so you need to see the originals!

This exhibition (2010/10/10-17) by Hotori Yui (阿由比展) at Gallery Musashi Ginza (銀座ギャラリームサシ) consists of many nice nihonga paintings.  Among other subjects, there were several pictures of Tokyo Tower, and when I ventured to the artist that she must like the tower, she said that she has special memories associated with it.  Of the various pictures, I liked the blue Tokyo Tower picture the best, which the artist kindly allowed  me to record for this post.  The second picture (from the promotional card) shows a picture that apparently will be displayed next to (and inside?) Takashimaya Department store near the south exit of Shinjuku Station from late November as part of the Christmas light-up.
