Kabuyama Shohei (蕪山昌平展) Exhibition at Jungaro (純画廊) - (2010/09)

This exhibition (2010/09/20-25) by Kabuyama Shohei (蕪山昌平展) at Jungaro (純画廊) was entitled "Sora-o-Miru" (空を見る - Look at the Sky), and consisted of several large nihonga pictures similar to the one below.  I quite liked the exhibition - and wouldn't mind having pictures like this on my own walls.

Nakamura Kaori (中村香展) Exhibition at Gallery Kobo (巷房) - (2010/09)

This exhibition/installation (2010/09/20-25) by Nakamura Kaori (中村香展) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) was in the two basement spaces of Kobo - with the picture on the promotional card (below) in the standard room along with several other pictures; and there was an interesting installation in the small under-stairs space with umbrellas and two-part raindrops.  It was an interesting and fun exhibit.  この展示かは、DM絵葉書のような絵と階段下の部屋には、面白いインストレーションでした。 結構面白かったです。 [2012 Exhibition]

This photo exhibition (2010/09/15-28) by Yoshino Masaki (吉野正起) at Ginza Nikon Salon (銀座ニコンサロン) consisted of various road pictures taken throughout Japan.  I thought it was quite interesting - from a blocked off old tunnel to an old steel bridge with the center section removed, to a new towering expressway bridge, to the half-overgrown road on the promotional card, etc., it almost made me want to get in a car and start driving around taking road pictures myself....

Group Exhibition, Including 北圃史朗, at K's Gallery

This was a group exhibition (2010/09/16-21), with several artists participating.  I spoke with one of them (Hitahatake - 北圃史朗) while visiting K's Gallery.  Hitahatake was exhibiting some ceramic pieces (see photo below).  My favorite part of the exhibit were some of the large ceramic pieces with very interesting designs on them.

Ishizuka Masako (石塚雅子展) Exhibition at APS and Gallery Camellia (APSとギャラリーカメリア)

This exhibition (2010/09/08-25) by Ishizuka Masako (石塚雅子展) entitled "Darkness and Light" (夜と昼) is at APS and Gallery Camellia (APSとギャラリーカメリア) and is the 20th in a series (シリーズ20).  The two rooms of the exhibition are on the fifth floor, with the picture on the promotional card (below) being exhibited alone in the APS space near the elevator.  The original is quite nice, and definitely worth seeing.  The reproduction on the card doesn't quite do it justice.  [Note: The show is fairly long-running, but is closed every week on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.]

Nishiya Mariko (西谷真梨子) Exhibition at Gallery Tomo (ぎゃらりぃ朋) - (2010/09)

This nihonga exhibition (2010/09/13-22) by Nishiya Mariko (西谷真梨子) at Gallery Tomo (ぎゃらりぃ朋) consists of pictures with a similar color scheme to the one on the promotional card.  An interesting element in some pictures, are small holes strategically cut into the cloth the pictures are painted on.  (Discovering a cat lurking in one such picture was a fun experience!)  The picture below (from the promotional card) was my favorite.

Yokai Saburo (向井三郎) Exhibition at Gallery Kobo (巷房) - (2010/09)

This exhibition (2010/09/13-18) by Yokai Saburo (向井三郎) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) consisted of pictures drawn with charcoal.  (I asked what kinds of trees are used for charcoal, and apparently willow is popular, due to its softness.)  This picture is quite large - and was drawn in sections at an actual location.  (This was my favorite picture of the exhibition.)  [2012 Exhibition]

This exhibit by Sasaki Chikusui (佐々木竹翠) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) consisted of characters written on top of old envelopes.  It's sounds simple, but the effect was pretty cool for most of the images.

Hoshikawa Shigeko (星川しげ子) Exhibition at Gallery La Mer (ギャラリーLa Mer) - (2010/09)

This exhibition (2010/09/13-18) by Hoshikawa Shigeko (星川しげ子) at Gallery La Mer (ギャラリーLa Mer) consisted of three-dimensional pictures such as the ones in the picture below.  There was also an interesting table cloth with paint splatters that I liked.  The artist created it, but the effect was such that I thought (until it was explained otherwise) that it might have been created naturally through years of paint falling upon it during the creation of other things.

Neo Chips Exhibition at Art Gallery Ishi (アートギャラリー石) and Gallery La Mer (ギャラリー La Mer)

This group exhibition (2010/09/06-11) was split between two galleries - Art Gallery Ishi (アートギャラリー石) and Gallery La Mer (ギャラリー La Mer) - both on the second floor of the Ginza Okuno Building.  With eight artists, there's too much to individually comment on, but here are some pictures - from the promotional card and a couple of pictures I took.  The second picture depicts art by Kato Osamu and the last picture... This exhibition by Takasuka Masaru (高須賀優) at Ginza Ono Gallery-2 (小野画廊-2) had - as its centerpiece - a large picture painted onto an old rusty sheet of metal.  The effect was quite interesting - while looking at the picture, you find yourself contemplating the years that the metal has seen....
