Supigura Photo (スピグラの会写真展) Group Exhibit at Gallery Izu (ギャラリーいず) - (2010/05)

This group photo exhibit (2010/05/15-23) at Gallery Izu (ギャラリーいず) is by a group calling themselves "Supigura Photo" (スピグラの会写真), with "supigura" an abbreviation for "Speed Graphic",  the camera.  All of the group are retired Yomiuri Newspaper press photographers who now take pictures as a hobby.

I talked with a couple of the group members for a bit and was intrigued by the picture that emerged of rushing out to cover a story with a reporter, and then giving the film to a messenger on a motorcycle who would rush it back to the newspaper with article notes supplied by the reporter.

The pre-wireless, and pre-cell phone life seems more exciting in a way.  I had a small taste of that today, as I went out and discovered my cell phone battery was completely discharged, so I was cut off from communications for the day.  With a cell phone in hand, on one hand, it's reassuring to know that you can be reached if there is an emergency, but always being essentially on-line is also - in a way - a loss of privacy and adventure.

Well, anyway - it's a great collection of pictures taken by professional photographers, so if you're near Ginza, you might want to check it out.
