Yoshikawa Masaki (吉川雅基) Exhibition at Art Space Rashinban (アートスペース羅針盤) - (2012/04)

This exhibition (2012/04/02-07) by Yoshikawa Masaki (吉川雅基) at Art Space Rashinban (アートスペース羅針盤) consisted of photo-based images made with silver over black, with the oxidizing of the silver creating gold-brown tones.  (More details below photos.)
The artist went to the Tohoku region and took photos, and then - based on a selection of those photos - created the above images with silver-leaf over black.  The newest pictures are with the silver still shiny, and then, as it oxidizes, the gold-brown colors emerge.  Something about this oxidized silver over black conveys the atmosphere of disaster better (in a way) than standard photographs.  It was a very interesting exhibition.  The artist's previous style of pictures was very nice as well (more abstract and with more color).
