This exhibition (2011/07/04-09) by Toyama Takayoshi (遠山隆義) at
Gallery Izu (ギャラリーいず伊豆) consisted of large, three-dimensional pictures - as you can see from this picture I took (with artist's permission) at the venue. Apparently the artist uses a variety of material to build up the surface of the picture, including denim, cloth, and other materials (frozen in place with some kind of resin I think). Once the surface is prepared, he paints on the colors. It's quite an interesting effect but needs to be seen directly, as two-dimensional photography doesn't quite capture the effect. この展示会は、立体的な大きい絵でした。 写真の通りですが、立体的なので、自分の目で見ないと... (画家は、写真の左側にいます。)
